Moving Targets

Listen, I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or piss on anyone's gods but in my humble opinion MOVING TARGETS' RECORDS BURNING IN WATER AND BRAVE NOISE ARE AS GOOD AS HUSKER DU'S ZEN ARCADE AND NEW DAY RISING. There. I'm glad I got that off my chest because its been eating a hole in my stomach for 18 years. Its compounded by the fact that they never got the recognition that they probably deserved. The songs on these two records also sound less dated than Husker Du. Plus, don't you just think it's time for a Husker Du backlash? People can run around denying their influence and all the cool kids can finally get behind Moving Targets. "Now with 66% less gay angst!" or something like that.

Moving Targets are just an incredible band that no one's every heard of...I'm with you, one of the best power-pop bands of all time, as good as Husker Du if not better. Thanks for putting this up so others can discover it.

Agreed. I got a chance to see them quite a bit in Boston and they were always amazing. They dig some reunion gigs last year with the Brave Noise lineup which was okay.

The third record "Fall" recorded the same time as Brave Noise is great as well. If you don't have I'd be happy to upload it.

Totally agree (Burning In Water, especially). A group of us who either shopped or worked at Vinyl Solution Records (London)at the time, would tell anyone who would listen what a great band they were.
Unfortunately, they never toured London. Did manage to see Ken Chambers when he toured with Bullet Lavolta...but it wasn't the same.:-(
Great choice, Bill, and nice to see the original US cover as opposed to the inferior Euro version.
Thanks
Anton

wow, thanks. i'm glad to see some love for moving targets!! i got those records in college and never got to see them live back then. it made me real sad that i would never get to see these songs played live. fortunately, they've reformed twice since then, though briefly. the last time i saw them, about a year ago, they were opening for Buffalo Tom and while i know bill janovitz has a lot of time for them, the audience did not. still, amazing stuff you should push on your friends!

Brilliant. I was just thinking of the album "Burning In Water" when I remembered its name and lost it in an old move. Just did a search and voila!

Thanks!

I listened through to Brave Noise, and it was indeed very good. The sound is surprisingly similar to Husker Du, though not really in a derivative way - more like bands of a time. Anyway, I'm a big Huskers fan so I can't say they're better, at least yet, but they're good...

as I say, just listened to Brave Noise, because I couldn't get Burning In Water to download properly. Is there much of a difference between them?

Folks, here is the third record "Fall", along with three tracks from a Massachusetts compilation called Bands that Could Be God that came out before Burning in Water. The comp. tracks were ripped from vinyl. It's nice to hear the progression from these early tracks to Burning in Water and then the second and third record. Enjoy!

Given all the alt-rock bands I worshipped in the 80's how could I possibly have not heard about Moving Targets? Well, better late than never. Just great stuff!

thank you so so much to the uploader I've been trying to find Brave Noise in digital format everywhere. I have it on double vinyl I think a rerelease of two albums Brave NOise and other. Unbelievable in this day and age on the net a band like this with some great songs hardly any mention on the net. I'm into heaps of pop-punk, melodic punk and other catchy stuff and imo Moving Targets have some of the best songs eg Nothing Changes. there's a cool live clip of this on you tube. there's a song from the album that stuck in my head something like "moving on so wrong, throw my life away" cant' wait to hear it. THANKS AGAIN TO THE UPLOADER - does anyone have any Bullet Lavolta stuff, again, a very underrated and not oft-mentioned band, on CD or in mp3, I have only the vinyl, the gift and first ep.

Actually the album features a guest appearance from Skyhooks lead singer Graeme "Shirley" Strachan on "Guns", singing background vocals during the chorus.
